He didn't mind spending money on someone else, especially if they haven't been in the city long and didn't have access to any income yet.
"Shouldn't be long. You can tell me some more about your travels while we wait."
"You're too generous." It's more compliment than criticism, and Stede nevertheless makes a mental note to buy them a round whenever it is he's able. Might not be for a while, given his feelings about contracts... but as he's been made aware, he can't go without one forever.
